Feelings of guilt are not unusual and a child can experience these feelings strongly, too. The important thing is to lift the burden of guilt from the child’s shoulders.

If your family is involved in an accident or casualty, every family member should participate in processing the incident. It should be discussed also with the child. A child does not often bring up an issue if he sees his parents are distressed. Therefore it is important for the parents to talk with the child about what happened.

After all, your duty is to establish a feeling of security and assurance of security in the future, too. Keeping to everyday routines creates a secure atmosphere for the child. You should ask for support and help with the day-to-day running of chores from other adults if you, in your capacity and situation, cannot provide normal run of everyday routines for the children.
